There are two major systems for checked baggage on international flights. There is the North America (US/Canada), two piece 32kg (70lbs) system and the weight by flight class system where economy passengers get around 20kg (44lbs), business class passengers get 30kg (66lbs) and first class passengers get 40kg (88lbs). Policies of course vary greatly depending on airline and flight route.
When packing for the airport, certain items must be checked while other items should be carried on the plane.
Items that must be checked:
Items that should not be checked:
Remember to remove old airline tags prior to checking in your luggage. You should also have your address and phone number on an outside tag as well as inside your bag - as outside tags can be damaged and lost. If you have double handles, make sure that the airline attendant attaches your airline tag to only one of the handles so that your tag isn't ripped apart the first time someone grabs only one of the handles.
